History West Meets FamilySearch

History West Meets FamilySearch

According to its website, FamilySearch is the world’s largest free, international nonprofit organisation dedicated to genealogy and family history research.

Maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the platform provides global access to billions of historical records, photographs, and a massive collaborative family tree containing over one billion unique profiles. Because it operates entirely as a service, all of its core features—including records access, digital preservation tools, and in-person assistance—are completely free to the public.

Recently, we were delighted to welcome two senior members of staff from FamilySearch to the History West Centre. Paul R Bennallack is the Multi-Area Manager, Pacific and Philippines, FamilySearch International, with him from the USA was Tom Nelson, FamilySearch’s Records Specialist for the Pacific Area. They met with RWAHS Councillor Darren Foster and the Society’s Librarian, Jeanette Longwood.

Discussions centred around finding ways FamilySearch and History West can mutually assist each other …watch this space.
