Perth Zoo over 125-years:

from the days of the WA Acclimatisation Committee to the current modern zoo,

researching and breeding threatened species for release to the wild.

The talk will delve into the Western Australian Acclimatisation Committee which first met in 1896 and had two roles: to introduce animals from Europe into the Australian environment and to establish a zoological garden. It will cover the 125-year history of the Perth Zoo, from its establishment to its current role as a modern zoo breeding threatened species for release back into the wild.

Dr Harriet Mills is a terrestrial zoologist and worked as a Lecturer in Zoology and Conservation Biology for over 20 years before joining the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions in her current role as Program Leader for Perth Zoo Science.
